New Gendarmerie Commander tasked to restore peace in Boyo

The new Gendarmerie Company Commander of Boyo Division in the North West, Lieutenant Tchumno Talon Robert, has been bestowed with the difficult task of restoring peace to the area that has been haunted by years of armed conflict.

Colonel Raymond Bissoue, the North West Gendarmerie Legion Commander, officially installed him in the Divisional Headquarters, Fundong, on September 27.

The Senior Divisional Officer for Boyo, Tegni Fidele, and the Mayor of Fundong, Denis Awoh Ndang, were present at the installation ceremony, along with other officials.

Lt. Tchumno Talon was tasked by the North West Legion Commander to combat criminality in the Division and restore peace in the area, which has been suffering from military-separatist confrontations for six years now due to the ongoing Anglophone Crisis.

The new commander was urged by Colonel Raymond Bissoue to prioritize the security of the population and their property, as well as the security forces under his command.

The military killed a dreaded separatist commander in Boyo, ‘General’ RK, who had a stronghold of some villages in the Division, just one week before the new company commander took office.

Lt. Tchumno Talon replaced Lt. Ayolo Ngo’o Joseph Charles, who received commendation for the successes he achieved as the company commander of Boyo.

He was awarded a congratulatory certificate for accomplishing the great task in the area.

The Mayor of Fundong, Denis Awoh Ndang, promised in his welcome speech at the installation ceremony to collaborate with the new commander in fighting for the return of peace in the division.

Despite the killing of ‘General’ RK, separatist groups in Boyo have remained active. Ambazonia fighters killed two head teachers three weeks before they killed him for engaging in activities to promote school resumption in the division.

Their lives were ended as the teachers returned from a meeting concerning school resumption in Belo Subdivision, the administrative unit of Boyo Division.

On Saturday, September 2, someone killed Fonjang Eric Denis, the Head Master of GS Soalam in Mbessa, along with another teacher, Ndim John Budji.

The inhabitants of Boyo Division express their hope that the new commander and his forces will curb the high rates of indiscriminate killing of civilians in the area.

The armed conflict has been affecting Boyo, one of the 13 Divisions in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon, for six years now.
