New PCC Moderator, Miki Hans, Receives Power of Attorney

After 10 years as Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon (PCC), Rt Rev Fonki Samuel Forba has officially handed the command baton to the newly elected Rev Miki Hans Abia.

The incoming Moderator signed the power of attorney today, December 20, marking the official transfer of executive power to him.

Former Cameroon Bar President, Barrister Eta Bissong, coordinated the event at the PCC Synod office hall in Buea.

Rev Miki Hans Abia, the outgoing Synod Clerk of the PCC, comes in as the church’s 7th moderator.

He will lead alongside Rev Ayuk Solomon Eta as Synod Clerk.

Both officials were voted November 18, 2024, during a heated election that received wide media attention.

Rev Miki Hans Abia obtained 121 voted out of 123, while Rev Ayuk Solomon got 118 out of 123.

Both officials are experienced Christians of the PCC who have served in various congregations for decades.

Upon his election, Rev Miki said he would continue Rev Fonki Samuel’s legacy of infrastructural development and sustainability.

He also said one of his main tasks would attempt to reconcile Christians of the Church, and mend internal cracks that emerged during the election period.

With over two million members, the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon is one of the country’s largest Christian denominations.

The Church has its roots from the 1800s when Basel missionaries from Europe arrived in Cameroon to spread the gospel.

In November 1957, the Church gained its independence from the Basel Mission, marking the birth of the PCC.

The Presbyterian Church in Cameroon has been instrumental in Cameroon’s development, building schools, hospitals, psychosocial centers to help the population.
