New SW military commander vows to prioritize peace, unity

The 10th Military Sector Commander, Capitaine de Vaisseau Nkotto Petit Paul Orelien, has promised to focus on promoting peace and unity in the South West Region.

He was formally installed into office on Thursday, April 11, in Buea, where the newly appointed commander pledged to utilize his 25 years of military experience to promote peace and unity in a Region marred by a separatist armed conflict for seven years now.

The commissioning of Capitaine Nkotto Petit Paul Orelien was officiated by Brigadier General Eba Eba Bede Benoit, Commander of the Second Combined Military Region, in the presence of Governor Bernard Okalia Bilia of the South West Region.

General Eba Eba charged the new commander with the responsibility of safeguarding peace and security in the region.

“The sum of all for protecting life and property of the population is we have to collaborate with Administrative authorities to contribute your fair share in the search for peace to reign,” said Gen Eba Eba.

In an interview, Capitaine Nkotto reiterated his determination to restore peace in the South West region.

“I am committed to doing my utmost to bring about peace,” he affirmed, emphasizing the need for concerted efforts to address the challenges facing the Region.

Born on January 21, 1974, in Metet, Sangmelima Subdivision, Dja and Lobo Division in the South Region, Colonel Nkotto Petit Paul Orelien brings a wealth of experience and dedication to his new role.

He succeeds Navy Captain Kenfack Dongmo Emmanuel, who has been reassigned to other duties.

His installation follows the presidential decree No 2024/063 issued on March 13, 2023.

Among dignitaries who attended the ceremony were the Mayor of Buea, the Nigerian Consul General to the North West and South West, the President of the South West Regional Assembly, among other officials.
