Newly appointed CCAST Bambili Principal spends third night in separatist captivity

The Principal of CCAST Bambili, a school in Cameroon’s Northwest Region, has been kidnapped since Tuesday by separatist fighters with whom reports say he has spent the third night.

The Principal, appointed in November, was reportedly absent from his school where he was expected to give closing remarks to end the first term of classes.

He had been kidnapped alongside a traditional notable of Bambili and the separatist fighters have not issued any remarks yet concerning their whereabouts.

The traditional notable, second in command to the Fon of Bambili, had been a Councillor of the Social Democratic Front, SDF, party.

Although he did not run for the February 9 Municipal Elections, reports say he currently works at the Bambili Municipal Council.

Separatists fighters have been notorious in kidnapping civil servants in the City of Bamenda or outskirt towns such Bambili.

Recently, the Ambazonia fighters have also been confronted by strong retaliation from security forces who killed one of their “Generals” known as Mad Dog in October.

The newly elected Bamenda City Mayor, Paul Achobong, has also been fighting against separatist-imposed Monday ghost town and frequent lockdowns in the city.

He has planned to use the New Year Day, January 1, 2021, as a day dedicated to end Monday ghost towns in the city imposed since 2017.
