News Briefs – March 02, 2022

The election for the new City Mayor of Limbe has been postponed. Instead of tomorrow, it will be held on Friday February 5th according to the Senior Divisional Officer for Fako. This comes shortly after the burial of the late mayor, Andrew Montanga Monjimba.


Weeklong activities have been launched ahead of this year’s edition of the International Women’s Day in Cameroon. For the next week, women in different services in the public sector would participate in sensitisation campaigns and sporting activities to create awareness on the challenges they face. It will culminate in a marchpast on Tuesday February 08.


The Cameroonian Government has issued its reaction to the ongoing armed conflict in Ukraine. Communication Minister, René Emmanuel Sadi has called for an end to hostilities, and urged the warring parties to ceasefire and engage in dialogue.




The corpse of a 12-year-old girl was removed from a well in Mandjou, Batouri, in the East Region today. Parents of the girl say she was kidnapped in December 2021 by unknown men who asked for a 15 Million FCFA ransom. Unable to meet up with the demand, the girl was murdered and dumped in the well. Two suspects have been arrested.


At least five Anglophone IDPs have regained their freedom from kidnappers in Eseka, Center Region. They were reportedly taken on February 25, 2022, and a 500,000 FCFA ransom demanded from their families. They were freed days after a Gendarmerie operation was launched and suspects are still on the run.

New Indomitable Lions’ Head coach Rigobert Song Bahanag has vowed to give his maximum best to propel the Indomitable Lions back to the top of African Football. Many Cameroonians have questioned his appointment, citing his inexperience as his possible reason for his eventual downfall.



Indomitable Lions’ defender, Fai Collins has extended a message of thanks to former coach, Antonio Concenciao. Following Rigobert Song’s appointment, Fai took to social media, sharing an image of him with the former coach and a message of thanks.
