News summaries – February 15, 2022

Victims of the Olembe Football Stadium Stampede say they are yet to receive any financial compensation from the Cameroon Government. Despite efforts being made by private individuals, the victims say the state has remained mute. 18 persons died and dozens more were injured during the stampede.


The body of a lady who jumped into the Wouri river in Douala some days ago has been recovered. Reports say she had parked her car on the Wouri bridge before jumping into the river. The reason for her decision still remains unclear.


Many today died in a road accident in Loum, in the Littoral Region of Cameroon. The victims were on board a Voyage Etoile Star Agency bus when the accident occured. Media reports estimate that 20 persons have died, and dozen others were injured.


Friends and family of a man arrested two months ago by the military in Kumba say he is still being detained without just cause. Hilary, as he is called, was arrested for allegedly letting his sister date a suspected separatist fighter. Ironically, the suspected separatist fighter remains free and Hilary in detention without any court proceedings.


Vision 4 TV political Analyst, Dieudonné Essomba has been relieved of his duties at the media house. His constant criticism of the regime is believed to be at the center of this decision. Dieudonné Essomba has often bashed Government for its handling of the Anglophone crisis.


The next court hearing for Ngarbuh Massacre victims comes up on February 18 in Yaounde. Happening shortly after the incident’s second anniversary, victims have been left worn out out by the slow and complex judicial process.
