Ngie Subdivision:
Civil servants accused of abandoning duty, ’embezzling public funds’

The Mayor of Andek Council in Ngie Subdivision, Momo Division in the North West Region of Cameroon has frowned at the abandonment of duty-posts by civil servants posted in the subdivision to serve the people.

Speaking to Canal 2 International TV, Mayor Ubangoh Helly says, “The major challenge here is that 99 % of heads of service and other government workers posted to serve my people in Andek municipality are not present. This is typical of those in the health and education sectors. Why should Cameroonians sent to serve other Cameroonians abandon duty?”

According to the mayor, some schools are going on without any official to monitor and supervise. “The inspector of basic education in Ngie subdivision who is supposed to supervise what teachers are doing is not there. Who knows if Ambazonia doctrines are taught to the kids”.

The head of the municipality reassures that Andek is 100% secured by the military and therefore sees no reason why service heads should stay off their duties in the name of insecurity.

“The service heads are spending running credits in Bamenda and other towns in the name of running away from insecurity. This is embezzlement of public funds,” Mayor Ubangoh Helly stated.

The mayor attests that besides the attack of the convoy of the Senior Divisional Officer of Momo Division in the month of January 2021, Ngie Subdivision has had no gunshot since the beginning of the year.

He calls on all principals and headmasters of schools to resume work to reassure parents and students of an effective kick off of schools next academic year.

Some teachers and civil servants that have abandoned their duty posts in the subdivision speaking in anonymity argue that they don’t benefit from military protection accorded to top administrative officials of the subdivision. This according to them exposes them to separatist fighters.
