“Ni John Fru Ndi was a courageous man” reactions stream in following his demise

Reactions have been streaming in – following the death of Ni John Fru Ndi, the Chairman of the Social Democratic Front (SDF) party.

Ni john Fru Ndi died late Monday, June 12th, 2023 in Yaounde following a protracted illness, his party has announced.

According to Professor Maurice Kamto, the Leader of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement party (MRC), Ni John Fru Ndi was a courageous and fearless leader.

“Ni John Fru Ndi played a significant role in the unfinished struggle of the Cameroonian people to regain control of their destiny. I salute the memory of a singular, charismatic and courageous leader. May the land of our ancestors be light to him,” Kamto wrote on twitter.

The SDF party’s First Vice President, Joshua Osih described Fru Ndi as a “beacon of hope.” Osih also promised to carry on with the fight.

“My heart bleeds. You were much more than our Chairman. You meant so much for many of us and even more for me. A beacon of hope and trust. Your legacy will live on. A luta continua,” Osih, who was the party’s presidential candidate in 2018, said.

Before his demise, dozens of party big wigs had taken Ni John Fru Ndi to court over non-respect of party rules. Though they were dismissed from the party, majority of them refused to step down.

Jean Michel Nintcheu who was one of them has said the SDO chair was a “great man, despite his recent errors.”

In a statement signed this Tuesday, Honorable Tomaino Ndam Njoya, the leader of the Cameroon Democratic Union, CDU, said Fru Ndi had been an inspiration in Cameroon’s political scene for over three decades. “And may we continue to be inspired, the battle for change isn’t over yet,” she added.
