Nigeria: gunmen abduct dozens of worshippers from mosque

The BBC reports that unidentified gunmen have raised a mosque in the town of Jibiya in Nigeria’s north-western Katsina state.

The gunmen, are said to have abducted some 40 worshippers from the mosque during overnight Ramadan on Sunday after opening gunfire.

The BBC quotes police spokesperson in the state, Gambo Isah as revealing that 30 of the victims were rescued after a combined team of local vigilantes, the police and soldiers immediately chased the gunmen.

10 victims however, remain unaccounted for, he stated.

The worshippers like millions of other Muslim faithful, had gathered in the mosque to observe overnight special prayers for one of the last 10 days of the holy month of Ramadan.
