Nigeria: Owner of Hilton Hotel Sentenced to death by hanging for murder of a student

Raman Adedoyin, the proprietor of the Hilton Hotel in Ile-Ife, has been sentenced to death by hanging.

According to local media reports Adedoyin was sentenced to death by hanging for the murder of Timothy Adegoke, a postgraduate student at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU).

On November 6, 2021, Adegoke was allegedly assassinated at the Hilton Hotel and Honours.

When Adegoke went missing on November 7, he was on his way to Ile-Ife to take an exam at the OAU Distance Learning Centre, Moro campus.

Adegoke’s body was discovered after police arrested several suspects, including hotel employees.

It was discovered that Adegoke had been at the Hilton hotel in Ile-Ife, Osun State, between October 22 and November 5, 2021, before going missing.

According to local media sources, Adedoyin was condemned to death by hanging by Osun State Chief Judge, Justice Oyebola Ojo.

Previously, Justice Ojo ruled that Adedoyin was guilty of murder.

According to the Chief Judge’s decision, the owner of the hotel and two of his employees are found liable of conspiracy to commit murder and unlawful death of the dead based on the circumstances of the case established by the prosecuting counsel, Femi Falana, SAN.

The death penalty seems to be gaining popularity in both Cameroon and Nigeria. A few weeks ago, some robbers who stole mobile phones and other electronic gadgets were also sentenced to death in Nigeria, while a man who raped and murdered two children was also sentenced to death by firing squad in Cameroon.
