Nigeria Requests Extradition of Finland-Based Separatist Leader

Nigeria’s Enugu Governor Peter Mbah has called for the extradition of Simon Ekpa, a pro-Biafra leader residing in Finland, due to his alleged involvement in insecurity in Nigeria’s south-east region. This request was reported by the privately owned Channels TV website yesterday.

Governor Mbah urged a parliamentary committee on security to advocate for Ekpa’s repatriation, citing his connections to violent attacks and the enforcement of unauthorized sit-at-home orders in the region.

“It is surprising that the Finnish government allows this man to reside peacefully in their country and then perpetrate terrorism in Nigeria,” Mbah stated.

On 13 June, Nigeria’s army chief Christopher Musa accused Finland and the EU of protecting Ekpa.

Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (Ipob), has accused the federal government of supporting Finland-based Ekpa to “cause unrest in the south-east.”

Governor Mbah also mentioned that his administration has ended the illegal sit-at-home orders that had severely impacted the economy of the south-east region.
