Nigerian Police Await Autopsy Report Two Months After Mohbad’s Controversial Death

Two months after the exhumation of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, the Nigerian Police have disclosed that they are still awaiting the autopsy results. This contradicts earlier reports by the police, who indicated that they knew the results of the autopsy as soon as it was carried out.

The mysterious circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death and the subsequent hurried burial on September 12, 2023, stirred concern both within Nigeria and internationally.

Calls for an immediate exhumation and autopsy arose to shed light on the events leading to the singer’s untimely demise.

Following international pressure, the Nigerian police announced the completion of an autopsy on Mohbad’s body a few days later. However, they refrained from issuing an official statement regarding the Afrobeat singer’s cause of death, an event that continues to unsettle Nigeria.

Local media reported, “The nurse who treated the late singer and allegedly administered an injection before his death was the first to be arrested as part of investigations.”

Prior to the autopsy, police investigators had determined that Mohbad was assaulted by individuals who had consistently threatened and harassed him after a performance in Ikorodu.

He sustained injuries from the assault, prompting him to seek the services of a nurse at home.

When questioned on Monday about the autopsy results, Benjamin Hundeyin, the state Police Public Relations Officer, revealed that the official report had not yet been received.

“The autopsy report has not been given to us. Some people have been spreading rumours that it’s ready,” stated the spokesperson. He emphasised that the police operate on facts, not rumours, and highlighted the distinction between the report being ready and officially handed over to the authorities.

Nigerian singer Naira Marley, formerly associated with Mohbad, has faced criticism since the announcement of the rising singer’s death. Naira Marley was arrested but later released after reportedly meeting the conditions of his bail.

The latest updates indicate that Mohbad’s exhumed corpse, intended for autopsy purposes, is currently being withheld by his father.
