Njinikom: Mayor Announces Improvement in Water and Electricity Supply

The mayor of Njinikom subdivision in Boyo division says separatists have slowed down the development efforts in the subdivision at individual and collective levels.

Yong Simon Loh made the statement over the weekend while addressing municipal councilors during a council session. According to the mayor, despite these, there have been able to solve the water and electricity problems in some areas in the subdivision, citing the construction of classrooms, bridges and electricity last year.

He has personally described such achievements as below expectations.
“The most challenging is the activities of the separatist fighters who have always disturbed our projects in the area and those we have sweated to bring to the municipality. They should understand that whether as a separate state or not, children will have to go to school. They should give the provision of social amenities a chance. They should give peace a chance,” he said.

Njinikom council was burnt down years back and the Anglophone crisis that has further degenerated, forced the Njinikom council like Belo, Bafut, Bali and several others to relocate to up station Bamenda where they now operate.

With the mayor and councilors often staying out of the municipality, many have been quick to question if the council is genuine in developing the area.
