Njodzeka Danhatu Kernyuy, multimedia journalist and Assistant Desk Editor at Cameroon’s oldest English Language newspaper, The Post, has been honored with the 2024 Best Young Print Journalist Award.
The accolade, which recognizes Njodzeka’s insightful storytelling at The Post and with several world-renowned media organs, was offered during an excellence awards organised by the Scoop Media Group in Kumba on Saturday, August 2.
The award ceremony, which doubled as the 10th anniversary celebration of the Scoop Media Group’s recognition of outstanding talent, spotlighted Njodzeka’s transformative contributions to journalism in 2024.
His work at The Post, where he refines stories as Assistant Desk Editor, has amplified voices and shaped lives across Cameroon.
The Scoop Media Group praised his ability to craft compelling narratives that resonate both locally and globally.
“For the fact you were selected for the award, know that you deserve it. It was not easy to go through the various nominees,” said Barrister Eseme Esembe, Mayor of Kumba I Council and chairman of the award ceremony.
Larry Esong, CEO of The Scoop Media Group, described the award as the second largest in Anglophone Cameroon, urging winners to continue their impactful work.
“You know that someone is watching. We see you and that is why we celebrate you, congratulations,” he said.
Accepting the trophy and certificate, Njodzeka expressed deep gratitude for the recognition.
“I am deeply honoured. This reminds me that I should continue doing the wonderful work we have been doing,” he said. “I am also grateful to The Post newspaper for nurturing me and giving me the platform to report and impact lives. I am also thankful to my colleagues who have collaborated with me, guided me and have encouraged in several directions.”
The award marks the first formal recognition of Njodzeka’s seven-year journey at The Post, where he began as an intern.
His Editor-in-Chief, Bouddih Adams, hailed the accolade as a reflection of Njodzeka’s dedication.
“Some people request for awards, others earned awards. This is an award earned. Njodzeka Kernyuy from the time he came to The Post as an intern, he was retained because of the passion for the profession,” Adams said.
He highlighted Njodzeka’s growth, noting, “That is why from an intern, he was retained and later designated Desk Editor. His contributions have enabled The Post to stay on top as the leading English Language Newspaper. Congrats Njodzeka for this award is well earned.”
Aside from The Post Newspaper, Njodzeka has freelanced with several international news organizations, including Voice of America, Al Jazeera, Bird News Agency, Russian Television and TRT World.
His coverage has spanned from shinning light on the effects of the Anglophone Crisis in Cameroon to spotlighting environmental issues and young Cameroonians who are striving to make a difference.
He also freelances with one of Cameroon’s biggest online news platforms, Mimi Mefo Info , where he has been at the fore of the 2025 presidential election coverage and produces the political programme, Road to Etoudi.
The Kumba award ceremony where Njodzeka was honored drew prominent figures, including the Senior Divisional Officer of Meme, the Mayors of Kumba I and II, the Meme Divisional Delegate of Communication, and the Meme Police Boss, underscoring the significance of the event.
Njodzeka’s award not only celebrates his individual excellence but also highlights The Post Newspaper’s role as a nurturing ground for journalistic talent in Cameroon’s challenging media landscape.
