The Nkambe Council has been crowned the third-cleanest municipality in Cameroon and has bagged home a cash prize of FCFA 60 million at the 2026 National Clean Cities Competition held in Maroua.
The win is a tribute to Nkambe municipal staff, headed by Mayor Musa Nfor Shey, who has taken stringent measures to ensure hygiene and sanitation.
Results of the national clean city contest were unveiled during the commemoration of the 40th edition of World Habitat Day, held on Monday, October 5, in Maroua. Ayos Council, in the Center Region, won the top prize, with a prize of FCFA 100 million.
Meanwhile, Garoua 2 & Meyomesala municipalities both took the second position, each earning a cash prize of FCFA 70 million.
Nkambe and Tiko won the clean city contests in the North West and South West Regions, respectively, before representing the two Anglophone regions at the national contest. Tiko took the 7th position with a cash prize of FCFA 40 million.
