The North West House of Chiefs has offered a heartfelt tribute to its oldest member, Fon Ngwashi Ndikum George of Akum, who ‘disappeared’ days ago.
The Fons described the deceased traditional ruler as an incarnate of tradition and leadership, in a condolence message signed by Fon Yakum Kelvin Shumintang, President of the North West House of Chiefs, who also doubles as Vice President of the Regional Executive Council.
Fon Ndikum joined his ancestors at the age of 89 after ruling Akum for 66 years.
“It is with deep sadness that we have received the news of the disappearance of His Royal Majesty, Fon Nwashi Ndikum George of Akum,” a condolence message from the Chiefs reads.
“Fon Ngwashi Ndikum George was not only the eldest member of our House but also a beacon of wisdom, tradition, and leadership,” the message adds.
The late Monarch, in conjunction with laid down rules, became interim President of the North West House of Chiefs after separatist fighters abducted its President and held him captive for several months.
His disappearance, the House of Chiefs says, “is an irreplaceable loss to the North West Region and the entire Nation.”
“As we mourn this great loss, let us also celebrate his life and the profound legacy he has left behind. May his spirit continue to guide and inspire us all in our collective journey towards progress and harmony. With deepest sympathy,” the message added.
Fon Ngwashi Ndikum’s death only became public knowledge several days after his exit, in line with the traditions of the Akum people.
