North West: “Mafors” denounce insecurity

Women holding traditional titles of “Mafor” in the North West region of Cameroon have called on warring factions in the region to give peace a chance.

In a lamentation session Thursday, December 24th in Bamenda, the women prayed and cried for peace to reign in the anglophone regions.

On placards, the women accompanied by the traditional ruler of Bawock village, say “We need pens not guns”, “No to killings” “We need peace not war” and a lot more messages that appeal to the conciencces of military men and separatist fighters.

While handing over some material assistance to physically challenged internationally displaced persons in Bamenda 2 subdivision, the divisional officer of Bamenda 2 called on the women to think of ways to educate this category of people to be independent.
Nicholas Nkongho laments that reducing İDPs to the receiving end is not the best solution.

Women for over three years have periodically organised lamentation sessions in Bamenda aimed at calling on both authorities and fighters to embrace peace. How beneficial these lamentations have been remain questionable given that killings, harassment and kidnappings are still the order of the day in the region.
