North West Pharmacists’ Association donates kits to Bamenda Central Prison

The inmates at the Bamenda Central Prison have received some pharmaceutical kits including essential medicine, facemasks, and soap to help fight against common diseases, and Covid-19 which has had a tool on many persons in the region.

The pharmaceutical kits are a gesture from the North West Association of Pharmacists on the occasion of the World Day of Pharmacists observed on September 25, 2021.

The Bamenda Central Prison harbors 658 inmates susceptible to common diseases like malaria, typhoid, Covid-19 amongst others.

According to Henry Asaahngu, the Prison superintendent, the prison authorities have been able to minimize the prevalence as no Covid-19 case has been reported.

“In the prison setting, prevention is very important because even a single case can become a disaster”, Mr. Asaahngu Henry said.

The North West Pharmacists led by their president, Dr. Ndimyuh Joseph took on the initiative to help maintain the population behind bars.

“We want to show them that we are together with them and they are also human beings and encourage them so that when they finish their prison terms, they should be able to regain Society and keep up with life”, Dr. Joseph said.

The pharmacists plan to visit other public places like schools where they will orientate other students on how to become pharmacists.
