North West: Regional delegate of public health ‘humiliates’ Director of Bamenda regional hospital

Dr. Kingsley Che Soh has stated that the hemodialysis center at Bamenda regional hospital in the North West region of Cameroon is not closed as earlier stated on Sunday, January 3rd, 2021 by the director of the regional hospital.

In a telephone interview with Mimi Mefo Info Monday, January 4th, 2020, the regional delegate of public health for the North West region says ” The hemodialysis center is not closed. One out of eight machines is functioning and therefore the center cannot be shut down”.

Dr. Kingsley Che Soh attests that he has just visited the center. “…we are taking measures to get the situation back to normal. It is not okay to say that the center is closed whereas one out of the eight machines is working well”.

The regional delegate of public health says the situation will be brought back to normal within 24 hours from Monday, January 4th.

In a release he signed earlier to contradict that of the director of the regional hospital, Dr. Che Soh says the machines that have been in the center for more than eight years are being replaced progressively by the minister of public health.

Reactions of Dr. Kingsley Che Soh, regional delegate of public health fiercely contradicted a release signed by Dr. Denis Nsame, director of Bamenda regional hospital where the hemodialysis center is located.

In the document signed by Dr. Denise Nsame on January 3rd, 2020, he said “dialysis patients should note that due to unforeseen acute breakdown of the machines in the dialysis center, the hemodialysis center has been temporarily closed and patients transferred to other general hospitals of the country pending a lasting solution to the machines of the center”.

As the medical personalities in the North West contradict each other over the hemodialysis center in Bamenda, kidney patients remain stranded.

To an inhabitant of Bamenda, speaking to Mimi Mefo Info on the basis of anonymity, “…we don’t understand why the regional delegate of public health will accept that just one out of eight machines is working yet he is against the director of the hospital for saying there is an acute shortage of dialysis machines. Can one dialysis machine treat hundreds of kidney patients in the North West?” He questions in total disappointment.

Dr. Kingsley Che Soh reassuring that he is the “boss” of public health in the North West insists that the situation will come back to normal within 24 hours.
