Experts in the North west region have indicated that breast cancer is the second major cause of death in women globally.
In a sensitization campaign exercise against breast cancer for female lawyers in the North West region, medical professionals disclosed that out of 50 cancer cases diagnosed at the Bamenda regional hospital, half are breast cancer.
Recently, the North west Bar Council lost one of its members to breast cancer 8 months ago and the president of the North west female lawyers discloses that they are determined to reverse the trend.
According to a gynecologist-obstetrician at the Bamenda regional hospital, he says educating women on breast cancer prevention is key in fighting the disease.
“Many of the cases that we have came at a very late stage. Most of them it’s very difficult to treat and what we offer is palliative care and most of them die after five years,” Dr. Dobgima said.
Health experts have stated that breast cancer can be better handled, if diagnosed early.
