About 5, 000 new voters have enrolled into the electoral register in the North West region barely four months after the launch of voters registration. The exercise was launched on January 2nd, 2022.

The number has witnessed an increase from that of 2021.

Statistics from the North West Regional delegation of Elections Cameroon, ELECAM, indicate that voters registration in 2021 was timid with a record of just 125 registered voters.

According to ELECAM North West regional delegate, Ngah Gasper, the situation has improved this year.

“The North West region has already registered 4852 electors”, Ngah Gasper noted.

He disclosed that the Mezam division is the highest with 2,654 registered voters.

Ngah Gasper says the ongoing socio-political stalemate and the covid-19 pandemic are affecting the situation of voters registration in the region.

“There are a lot of identification posts in some subdivisions and the fact that they are not fully effective makes it difficult to get voters”, he said.

Officials of the North West Regional delegation of Elections Cameroon say they envisage getting 11, 000 registered voters by August 31st this year.
