North West Roadblocks: Governor Announces Military Action in One Week

North West governor, Adolphe Lele L’Afrique has called on the population to actively collaborate with the administration and the defense and security forces to render passable roads which are currently blocked by separatist fighters in some parts of the North West region.

Reports indicate that the continuous roadblocks are rendering access to medical care challenging and making movement of persons and goods difficult.

For close to three weeks now, the Bamenda-Bali, Bamessing-Ndop and Bambui-Fundong stretch of roads have been rendered impassable by separatist fighters.

Patients seeking medical care have been stranded for weeks at Bambui due to their inability to get to the Mbingo Baptist hospital.

Farm products are in a state of decomposition as a result of the roadblocks.

This situation has forced the North West governor to say security operations are underway to render the roads passable.

“Security operations that will lead to the opening of the roads are ongoing. Before one week, we won’t face such challenges in our main roads again”, Governor Adolphe Lele Afrique said.

He has also appealed to the population to collaborate with the defense and security forces in removing the roadblocks.

A road user who preferred to be named as Lawrence, says he spent close to 20.000FCFA from Kumbo to Bamenda, about 10.times the original cost before the armed conflict.

“You can imagine, leaving Kumbo I used a bike to get to Jakiri. From there I went to Waxibel then to Magba in the West region, to Bafoussam before start coming to Bamenda. Normally if I was to take the main access track, I would have spent at most 4000frs but I have spent close to 20.000frs”, Lawrence said.
