Nwa Fons to discuss “alarming atrocities” allegedly committed by Fulanis

Fons of Nwa Subdivision in Donga Mantung Division of the North West Region of Cameroon are set to meet in a meeting to discuss recent atrocities committed in their land.

This is the substance of a release issued Tuesday, March 2, 2021, by the Secretary General of the Nwa Fon’s Union, NWAFOU, Fon Kassingong III.

The meeting has been announced for March 12 to 13, 2021 in Bankim, Mayo-Banyo Division of the Adamawa Region.

“Following a series of consultations amongst majority of the Fons, because of the Fulani incursions from Nigeria and their alarming atrocities in our land, we the Fons, most worried, have decided to hold an urgent crisis meeting in Bankim in the Adamawa Region on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th March 2021,” the release stated.

The union further explained that the choice of Bankim, out of the subdivision is due to the fact that “majority of the internally displaced Fons from Nwa are currently in Bankim”.

“We will be able to take some unanimous decisions or resolutions that will be forwarded to the powers that be and some certainly will be implemented by all of us as a community,” the release added.

The scribe of the Nwa Fon’s Union calls on sons and daughters of the subdivision to facilitate the holding of the meeting as many of the Fons have been dispersed across various towns where they are seeking refuge.

Nwa, one of the oldest subdivisions in the country, has witnessed wide-scale atrocities allegedly committed by settlers, the Mbororo.

According to the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon Edward Adamu Lambe at least six natives have been killed as a group of Fulanis from neighbouring Nigeria and Banyo in Adamawa Region, in complicity with the settlers in Nwa, attacked several Yamba villages amongst them Ntim, Fam, Yang and Ntong.

Majority of those killed, including a retired Divisional Officer, Febnchak Manasis, are said to be elderly people who could not flee during the persistent attacks.

Several hundreds of villagers have reportedly fled into neighbouring villages given that their houses, markets and other structure have been razed by the assailants.

Meanwhile, the government has been blamed for maintaining a suspicious silence on the killings and to have armed the Fulanis to fight separatist but who are now fighting innocent indigenes.
