“October 1 is not just our Independence Day; It defines who we are as Southern Cameroonians” – Mancho Bibixy

As the Cameroon government continues to wallow in its doctrine of its “One and Indivisible Cameroon” Ambazonian activists across the globe are celebrating a day that they maintain as “A day of Independence for Southern Cameroonians.”

In a conflict, now dragged on for 5 years, Southern Cameroonians/ Ambazonian activists have maintained the same determination as in the beginning, to liberate the Anglophones from what they believe and call “The shackles of La Republique du Cameroon.”

We spoke to jailed Anglophone activists and initiator of the famous Bamenda ‘Coffin Revolution,’ Mancho Bibixy on his thoughts about the supposed day of Independence of the Southern Cameroonians.

“October 1 is not just our Independence day, it defines who we are as Southern,” he said. “Unfortunately, we grew up under a ruthless La Republic du Cameroun regime that tried to erase this day.” He added.

Bibixy, now serving a 15-year jail term at the Nkondengui Maximum Prison in Yaoundé revealed his optimism in the Anglophone course, saying that “the importance of October 1 has been engraved in our blood and will be transferred to the unborn.”

He also challenged the Cameroonian Government, boldly saying that they should recognize the date as well, given its importance to people whom they claim are part of them.

Bibixy also blamed the United Nations, Britain, and France for their chaos in Cameroon at the moment. “The one and the only way out is the way we came in. We must go back to the root causes, the political blunders of the UNO, Britain, and France, and the annexation of the territory by La Republique du Cameroun. We can only go out by using the same door we used in coming in,” he proposed.
