Oku: Prince Ngum Ernest Merlin is new Fon

Prince Ngum Ernest Merlin is now sitting on the traditional ancestral throne of Oku kingdom, Bui division in the North West region of Cameroon.

The master’s student in the department of Law in the University of Bamenda was Wednesday, May 12, enthroned according to the tradition and culture of the people of Oku.

This comes six days after the “disappearance” of His Royal Highness Sintieh II Ngum Martin Yuosembom joined his ancestors on May 6, 2021.

His Royal Highness Ngum Ernest Merlin takes over traditional authority in Oku land at a time when some boys of his community armed with guns and other dangerous weapons are in the bushes demanding for the secession of English speaking part of Cameroon from the rest of the country.

Fon Ngum Ernest Merlin will have to blend his knowledge in Law and wisdom from the gods to address activities of military and separatist fighters in Oku land that have caused many to flee the community.

His predecessor late HRH Sintieh II Ngum should be noted was kidnapped once by separatists. They accused him of collaborating with the military against separatist fighters .

Fon Ngum Ernest Merlin is not a new comer in the activities of the palace. His father Late HRH Ngum III was a traditional leader of Oku. When he “journeyed beyond”(died), late Fon Sintieh ascended the throne.
