One Person Killed, Another Injured in Separate Attacks in Bamenda

At least one person was shot dead and another severely injured in two separate attacks on Friday night, August 23, 2024, in Bamenda, the capital city of Cameroon’s North West region.

The first incident involved Nji Prince, widely known as Bakayoko, who was killed and left in Mbingfibie, a neighborhood in Mankon, Bamenda. His body, discovered early Saturday, August 24, bore gunshot wounds and a broken arm. According to sources, he was shot by gunmen around 8 p.m.

“His name, Nji Prince AKA Bakayoko, was shot by unknown persons, and his corpse was deposited at the Nbingfebih neighbourhood in Bamenda. He is said to have been shot at about 8PM yesterday, August 23rd. His corpse was only identified this morning by the population,” a former schoolmate of the deceased said.

In a separate attack, a man whose identity has yet to be confirmed by MMI was brutally assaulted by gunmen in Namoh, Nkwen. He was rushed to a nearby health facility in critical condition.

These incidents occurred on the same night that a taxi was set ablaze in Alahlie quarter by suspected members of the Separatist Ambazonia movement.
