“… Our ex-fighters are who they are” Gabsa Sixtus, Coordinator, DDR Centre Bamenda

The Coordinator of the Disarmament, Demobilisation, and Reintegration (DDR) Center in Bamenda, North West Region of Cameroon has denied rumors that ex-fighters in the center are bracing up for an imminent strike against the government.

Gabsa Sixtus in a press conference Tuesday, February 2nd, 2021, dismissed such information saying activities are moving on well in the center.

“More trades are going to be introduced in the days ahead like cookery, shoe mending, and many others,” Mr. Gabsa declared in a press conference.

To him, the training given to ex-fighters is not only to help themselves but others.

“We intend to build the competencies of the ex-fighters and eventually re-integrate them by giving them financial resources to establish and even create jobs for others. We provide assistance to them based on problems they present to us.”

However, the Coordinator of the DDR center in Bamenda underlined that from time to time, there are problems in the center caused by the ex-fighters.

“The DDR center is not in heaven nor is it a church. We also have problems from time to time because ex-fighters are who they are”.

Some ex-fighters at the Bamenda DDR center say they are equally under the burden of grievances that pushed ex-fighters in Buea Monday, February 1st to strike. They want financial independence to help their families. They think they have been deceived by the government all this while.
