The treasure was seized by elements of the Regional Division of the Judicial Police Force (DRPJ) on Monday, November 9, 2020 in a secret operation.
During this operation, the police force was able to take charge of over 250 bars of gold from traffickers. The story from “Le Messager” newspaper says that these precious metals were loaded in over 10 suitcases, which was then intended to be brought to Dubai where it would have been sold.
The report on the newspaper equally adds that during the operation led by Commissioner Moïse Emane Emane, two foreigners of Canadian nationality were apprehended and are currently under detention at the DRPJ. Informants close to the source say the two foreigners arrived in Cameroon over a week ago and lodged themselves in the only Five Star hotel in Yaoundé, hoping to take off to Dubai on Tuesday, November 10.
During the operation, some Cameroonians who may have worked in complicity with the foreign traffickers were also arrested and are detained. The total gold seized from the traffickers was estimated to being worth over 10 Billion FCFA.
