Over 150 Cameroonians stranded in Ghana as Search for job ends in tears

At least 150 Cameroonians have been left stranded in Ghana, after being lured by other Cameroonians for fake job employment opportunities.

In a similar situation to the Mali job scam that made waves on social media last year, victims are lured by people they know, who promise to offer them well-paid jobs upon arrival.

MMI has learned from a victim that his passport was seized upon arrival, and a sum of 550,000FCFA was collected from him. He was then asked to lure as many people as possible and to receive a commission.

The victim’s brother also mentioned that he was lured into the trap by a girl who happened to be an old classmate of his, equally a victim.”He sent his documents and after a week, he got a call from the said company, telling h his interview was scheduled for May 2022,” the victim’s brother told us.”…after explaining it to us, we raised some money and he traveled through Nigeria.

Upon arrival, he was told he needed to pay 550,000FCFA for his work permit, insurance, and accommodation which we sent.” He mentioned.A contract was thereafter presented which he is believed to have signed before he was guided to a camp with over 150 other Cameroonians. “…his sim card was seized from him when they arrived at the camp and he was given the rules.

It stated that he had to keep what he had experienced a secret, and was asked to equally bring in as many other Cameroonians as possible.” His brother testified.

It was thanks to a WiFi connection that some pictures and information were filtered out of the camp by the victim. The living conditions in the camps are horrendous, and victims are barely able to afford a meal.
