The Popular Action Party has said only a return to the 1961 constitution could help solve the lingering armed conflict in the Anglophone regions of Cameroon.
The party took the stance Monday following the kidnap of some traditional rulers in Fako division of the South West region.
In a communique signed by party’s president, Njang Denise Tabe, the opposition political outfit blamed government for the escalation of the Anglophone crisis.
“Traditional Institutions shouldn’t be targets for settling selfish or egoistic political scores be it the failed CPDM Biya government or the Separatists Interim Government” the communique stated.
Njang Denise through the communique has cautioned diaspora leaders to call the separatist fighters they control back in Cameroon to order while equally exalting political and traditional leaders on the ground to stand on the better side of history.
He has asked them to stand by the truth and justice.
He is also proposing that the 1961 Federal Constitution be brought back and that Biya resigns from power for a new and efficient government to take over.
“The PAP recommends the 1961 basis of coming together, general amnesty to all prisoners and exiled Cameroonians… and above all relinquishing of power for a new Republic…” he maintained.
