Cameroon’s National Assembly speaker Hon Cavaye Yeguie Djibril has pressed electricity production and distribution companies, SONATREL and ENEO to step up efforts and provide regular power to Cameroonians.
He was talking at the end of the March session of parliament where he raised a number of issues plaguing the country.
“… I would like to raise what constitutes major concern to the population, that is the issue of recurrent power outages” he stated.
These outages, the house speaker said, “have become the daily lot of Cameroonians as the neighborhoods of many cities and localities are left for days and weeks without power supply”.
“I am therefore calling on ENEO and SONATREL to seek rapid and lasting solutions to the problem of recurrent power outage…”
Government, he urged, should also “… assume its responsibility in problems pertaining to power supply”.
The MP’s call comes at a time when several Cameroonian towns and localities have not been able to boast of steady power supply in months, including the capital, Yaoundé.
