Paul Chouta’s incarceration: Calixthe Beyella mocks journalists’ inaptitude to release colleague

Following Calixthe Beyella’s interview with Radio France International (RFI) where she discussed her role in the incarceration of Web Journalist, Paul Chouta, She has since been on the receiving end of some criticisms and bashings on social media and from other media personalities.

The renowned writer has fought back by mocking at the inability of Journalists and Paul Chouta’s other colleagues to secure his release.

“Who made some of you believe that you can put pressure on Cameroonian justice? Are there Cameroonians, those who think so? Yet, as far as I’m concerned, I observe it… However, they scour social networks to say that Cameroonian justice is under orders. So go and put pressure to release your brother!” wrote Calixthe Beyella on her Facebook Page Monday, April 05, 2021.

“You said you saw French International organizations, what has changed since you saw them? Keep threatening me instead of keeping a low profile and apologizing! Continue to insult this justice and you will see what it will have in store for you! Too easy to persecute me because I simply appealed for justice in the face of the persecution. It is my only means of action,” she added.

The utterances come after Calixthe Beyella famously blasted Journalist Paul Chouta, accusing him of being an ingrate and not being a Journalist.

“Paul Chouta is not a journalist. He’s a blogger. You know the method in Cameroon is to pay bloggers to scuttle people. This boy for a month published lies about me everyday, about my sexuality, where I was etc, to the right, that I was an old lady in need” she stated.

“… All Cameroonians can testify. When I get there, it’s not just me. There are dozens of other women who file complaints for the same reasons. Paul Chouta is not in prison because it is only Calixthe Beyala who lodged a complaint. There are several complaints,” she said in the interview.

Journalist Paul Chouta is still behind bars ever since he was arrested in 2019 on orders of Calixthe Beyella for charges of defamation. He has already spent over 2 years in pre-trial detention.

There have equally been reports of several attempts on his life during his time in jail. He has also survived food poisoning and Covid-19.
