PCC blesses Buea with state-of-the-art diagnosis health center

The Presbyterian Church in Cameroon (PCC) has inaugurated a new diagnostic health center in Buea, a significant development for healthcare in the South West Region.

The center was officially opened on Friday, May 24, coinciding with the send-off ceremony for the church’s moderator, Rt Rev Fonki Samuel Forba.

This new facility marks the first time the Presbyterian Church’s health services have been represented in Buea, a city hosting the Church’s headquarters.

The center offers a wide range of medical services, including maternity care, surgical procedures, and dental care. However, the primary focus is on diagnostic services, a crucial area in modern medical treatment.

Dr. Nyaah Fidelis, the health service secretary for the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon, highlighted the advanced capabilities of the facility.

“The laboratory in this hospital is equipped with different equipment that can do all forms of diagnosis and all sorts of laboratory tests. We have a 4D colored ecography machine and a digitalized X-ray system. This means that when you come, we can snap your X-ray and send it to your phone, so you don’t need to carry a big envelope around,” Dr. Nyaah explained.

One of the standout features of the new health center is its MRI system, a first for Buea and the South West Region.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive medical imaging test that produces detailed images of almost every internal structure in the human body, including organs, bones, muscles, and blood vessels.

MRI scanners use a large magnet and radio waves to create these images, providing critical insights for accurate diagnosis and treatment.

In addition to the MRI system, the hospital also boasts a state-of-the-art eye department capable of performing advanced procedures such as cataract surgery using the latest Fargo embolism technology.

The dental department is equally well-equipped, offering comprehensive dental care with modern facilities. The hospital’s pharmacy is well-stocked with cost-effective medications, ensuring that patients receive the best possible care.

“We also have a state-of-the-art dental department in this hospital and the pharmacy is well stocked with essentially cost-effective medications. So when each person comes here, we’re able to attend to them perfectly well,” Mr. Fidelis added.

The center also features incubators for premature babies, providing essential care for newborns until they can thrive outside their mothers’ wombs.

The Presbyterian Diagnostic Urgent Care Hospital in Buea has already caught the attention of regional health authorities.

On Thursday, June 6, a control and supervisory team from the Regional Delegation of Public Health, led by the South West Regional Delegate for Public Health, Dr. Eko Eko Filbert, visited the facility.

The team conducted a thorough inspection and provided recommendations for reorganizing certain aspects to meet hospital norms.

A report will be prepared based on these recommendations, followed by a second inspection to ensure compliance. This process is expected to pave the way for a formal letter to be sent to the Minister of Public Health, authorizing the facility to commence full operations.
