PM Dion Ngute warns against non- respect of COVID-19 preventive measures

Prime Minister Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute has reiterated that all preventive measures prescribed by the President of the Republic, which have not yet been lifted, remain in full force.

The PM was speaking on June 18, 2020, in Yaounde while presiding over an inter-ministerial video conference aimed at evaluating and implementing government response strategy against the coronavirus pandemic in Cameroon.

The discussions during the video conference by the ministers amongst others were mostly centered around the spread of the disease in Cameroon and the setting up of specialised centers for treatment and a quick review of preflight arrangements as the Cameroon airspace gets reopened.

As part of the various issues that were discussed, the Minister of Tourism and Leisure, Minister of State Bello Bouba Maigari revealed that with regards to the precautionary measures to the COVID-19 pandemic, his ministry had taken steps to ensure the strict respect of basic hygiene rules in hotels and restaurants around the country.

The Minister of State insinuated that these public facilities are risk-free as the ministry has sought for strict supervision to that effect.

In the same vein, the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Minette Libom, noted that her ministry has taken particular positive strides in its effort to seek for a digital platform that will help combat the pandemic in Cameroon. She reveals the platform will be officially launched on June 23, 2020.

Prime Minister Dion Ngute at the end of the session handed out some firm instructions to ministers to guide them as they seek better measures to combat the virus in the country.

He especially commended the Minister of Public Health, Manaouda Malachie in his unrelenting efforts put in to see that the spread of the pandemic is greatly minimised.

Dion Ngute advised that the Minister of public health should accelerate the transfer of Covid-19 patients from conventional hospitals to treatment centers within the shortest possible time.

This according to the PM will limit the chances of others getting infected and to proceed with the systematic disinfection of the hospitals that have received COVID-19 patients.
Above all, the Prime Minister gave strict warnings to Ministers and to Cameroonians, reminding them that measures prescribed by the Head of State, Paul Biya, to help prevent the spread of the virus which have not been lifted.

He urged ministers to ensure that these measures are followed to the latter in their various areas of competence.

This means that the restriction on houses of worship, compulsory wearing of facemasks and social distancing are still very applicable.
