Police officer amazes Douala population in single-handed voluntary road maintainance

The second grade officer filled an area of a tarred road stretch in economic capital Douala to the amazement of passersby.

Many were marvelled at the service which they say is a rare act from a Cameroonian uniform officer.

Usually, bumpy road stretches are filled by Municipal authorities or individuals who volunteer and in turn ask for money from drivers who use the road.

Uniform officers in Cameroon primarily stand on roads to control traffic or car documents but they have usually exploited drivers and sometimes harass road users for money.

“While his colleagues chase drivers and bikers over 500frs (less than $1) this is what he does,” an amazed Douala resident said.
