A taxi driver has been shot by a police man at a checkpoint on the road to Nkoundoum, in the West Region.
The incident took place sartuday April 16.
Some sources explained that the victim attempted escaping the checkpoint when the man in uniform pulled his trigger.
The taxi man was later rushed to the Foumban district hospital, after which he was evacuated to the Bafoussam regional hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.
Following the incident, other taxi drivers stormed the police station and in anger, they threatened to set the structure ablaze.
Efforts by the local authorities were subdued by the raging anger of the protesters.
The protesters went ahead in paralyzing the city, setting up barricades on the main road.
It took the intervention of Nabi Mbombo Njoya, the king of Bamoun to appease the anger of the citizens.
The reassuring news on the taxi driver’s health has however helped to tone down the scale of the demonstrations projected by his colleagues.
