Police officer shoots, kills commercial bike rider at close range in Yaoundé’s Mokolo Market

With the characteristic hustle and bustle of the largest market in the capital city, avoiding disorders and clashes between traders, buyers, and security agents is almost impossible.

In this case, however, a commercial bike rider lost his life at the Mokolo Market on January 20, 2021, as he defended a market woman who had her merchandise thrown and trampled upon by this unscrupulous police officer.

Reports say the anonymous police officer in question has been noted amongst the traders and people in and around Mokolo for his arrogance and quick temper.

On this day, while moving around the market, he intentionally pushed to the ground merchandise which belonged to a lady simply because he needed space to pass through. Cameroon-info.net states that he as well went further to assault this lady as she confronted him.

It was at this stage that a commercial bike rider came from the crowd to defend this woman. While the two exchanged angry words at each other, this police officer allegedly got pissed, took out his gun, and shot the bike rider at close range.
He also followed it up by hitting the bike rider hard on the head, causing the victim to die on the spot.

With anger and disdain for what they had just witnessed, the population immediately pounced on this police officer, giving him snake beatings. The aggressor was however saved by the arrival of a contingent of other police officers who came and successfully dispersed the crowd away from their colleague.
