Pope Francis Appoints New Bishop in Yokadouma

The Head of the Roman Catholic Church, His Holiness Pope Francis, has appointed Mgr. Justin Georges Ebengue as the new Bishop of the Diocese of Yokadouma.

The announcement was made Saturday, January 11, 2025, in Buea by His Grace Andrew Fuanya Nkea, President of the National Episcopal Conference, at the closing of the 48th Annual Seminar of the Bishops of Cameroon.

Mgr. Ebengue, previously the Rector of the Major Seminary of Bertoua, succeeds Mgr. Paul Lontsie-Keune, whom the Pope appointed Bishop of Bafoussam.

Mgr. Lontsie-Keune was concurrently serving as Apostolic Administrator of the Yokadouma Diocese.

The new newly appointed Bishop of Yokadouma, Mgr. Justin Georges Ebengue, was born on May 18, 1970.

He began his studies at the Teaching Seminary of Saint Jean-Baptiste de Doumé before advancing to the Major Interdiocesan Seminary of Notre-Dame de l’Espérance in Bertoua, where he studied Philosophy and Theology.

He later obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Canonical Law from the Catholic University of Central Africa in Yaoundé.

Ordained a priest on February 18, 2006, in the Diocese of Batouri, Mgr. Ebengue has served in various pastoral and administrative roles.

This includes Parochial Vicar, Parish Priest, Rector of the Minor Seminary of Doumé, and Chancellor of the Diocese of Doumé-Abong’ Mbang.

He also managed Pastoral and Diocesan Catechesis and served as Diocesan Administrator of Batouri.

His extensive experience and commitment to the Church have prepared him for this new role as the Bishop of Yokadouma.

He is expected to lead with dedication and spiritual vigor.
