Pope Francis tells the international community to ‘stop choking Africa’

Pope Francis has urged the international community to stop “choking Africa” and give the Democratic Republic of Congo its autonomy.

“This country and this continent deserve to be respected and listened to; they deserve to find space and receive attention,” the pope said on Tuesday January 31 in Kinshasa, DRC.

“Hands off the Democratic Republic of the Congo… Hands off Africa! Stop choking Africa: Africa is not a mine to be stripped or a terrain to be plundered,” said the Supreme Pontiff.

The Roman Catholic Pontiff was speaking during a visit to the continent of Africa where he is expected to visit both the DRC and South Sudan.
