A 25-year-old man has reportedly died under questionable circumstances under detention at the Pouma Gendarmerie Brigade, Littoral region.
The man whose name we got as Juste Majoie Tadjock was summoned to the Gendarmerie following complaints from his companion.
Having failed to honour the summons, a Gendarmerie officer was deployed to his house to forcefully bring him to the station.
Reports say he was taken to the station by the Gendarmes where he would spend the night. Quite oblivious of what had transpired at the Gendarmerie when the victim was taken, elements of the brigade simply went and dropped his corpse at the Pouma mortuary without any explanations.
His family wasn’t also made aware of his death when he was deposited at the morgue. His parents were only informed hours later of their son’s corpse at the morgue. The victim’s relatives reveal that his body bore a series of deep wounds which shows that he had been brutally tortured while in detention.
The family of the deceased has demanded for explanations on the circumstances which led to their son’s death in the hands of the Gendarmes. His girlfriend who had filed in a complaint against the deceased has not been seen since his death announcement.
