President Paul Biya to precide over May 20th celebrations
President Paul Biya will preside over the 52nd edition of Cameroon’s national day celebrations on Monday, May 20, in Yaounde, according to a release from the civil cabinet of the Presidency.
Before the official announcement, there were widespread rumours that the president might not attend the event due to his age. The 90-year-old leader, who has ruled Cameroon since 1982, is rarely seen in public.
He was last seen in April this year in rare footage celebrating the 30th anniversary of his marriage to his wife, Chantal Biya.
It is worth noting that he has been summoned to appear before the Mfoundi Court of First Instance regarding an issue related to the abandonment of office.
Opposition member of Parliament for Wouri, Jean Michel Nintcheu, filed a lawsuit against Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh, Secretary General at the Presidency, for usurpation of presidential powers. President Paul Biya had previously delegated his signature to Ngoh Ngoh.
