Presidential Aspirant Ndim Jacob Prepares to Start Scouting for Signatures

 
Buea-based farmer and presidential aspirant Ndim Jacob Ngong says he will soon start meeting chiefs and administrators in the 10 regions of Cameroon to secure signatures. These are a fundamental requirement for an independent candidate contesting in the presidential election.

Ndim Jacob Ngong outlined his plans on Saturday, May 3, during the first-ever executive on-camera meeting with members of his presidential platform, Rescue Cameroon.

“As a plan of action, we in the days ahead, will be meeting Chiefs and other stakeholders to discuss and compile signatures for my candidacy,” he said in a speech presented to members.

Acknowledging that it would be a tedious process, he placed his hopes on God’s grace.

“I trust our deliberations here today will open us to the next commitment of our vision. We need the people mobilised, and we also need the resources. It is from our input here, and after that, we can create the future we want with my humble self, Ndim Jacob, as president. The ball is in our court,” he said.

Evaluating Progress

The recent conclave in Buea equally gave them the opportunity to evaluate the progress they have made so far.

But aside from just evaluation, they discussed strategies for his Presidential bid. Ndim said it all started like a dream but has today grown bolder in the eyes of everyone.

“Before anything else, I’d like to first urge you to believe in hope and watch how far God is willing to carry us. Was it not he who said we can do all things? This is not an exception,” he said.

“As we deliberate today, beyond personal aggrandisement and desires, we must put the interests of over 30 million Cameroonians first. They have suffered immensely, and we have the choice to do this and rescue Cameroon or sit around and waste away in like manner,” he added.
 

Ndim Jacob Endorsed by Members

The members of Rescue Cameroon unanimously endorsed Ndim Jacob as the platform’s flagbearer during the meeting.

By pledging their support, the members said they recognised Ndim as the ideal candidate for the nation’s leadership and acknowledged his deep understanding of the issues facing the people and his proposed solutions.

For that reason, they stressed the importance of creating a more inclusive society with a focus on empowering youth. The platform is thereby stressing the necessity of increasing young voter registration. They are also advocating improving the quality of life for young people to reduce emigration.

They stated that Paul Biya, the incumbent president, has not been able to handle these issues for the past 40 years.

“The vision for rescue will be shared widely, starting now. Outreach efforts will take place in markets, schools, palaces, on social media, and in any place where people can be reached,” one of their resolutions stated.

Presidential Election Months Away

In October, millions of Cameroonians will head to the polls to choose their next leader. Several politicians have declared their candidatures; however, the election management body, ELECAM, decides who is eligible.

For those who would not contest under a political party, they will need to secure 300 signatures. These must be from traditional rulers and Divisional Officers before paying a fee.

Meanwhile, those running under a political party must have representation in Parliament or the Municipal Council.
