Price hikes:
Government to announce new adaptive measures today!

The Cameroon government is expected to announce new measures to cushion price hikes and scarcity of some basic commodities, attributed to the Russia-Ukrainian armed conflict.

Government spokesperson who doubles as Communication Minister, Rene Emmanuel Sadi will later today be addressing the press to this effect.

He will be accompanied by a host of government Ministers, including the Trade, Water and Energy, and of Agriculture and Rural Development Ministers.

Many basic commodities have over the past months, soared in price. A liter of Vegetable oil for instance, used to cost 1,000 FCFA. Today, it goes for about 1,700 FCFA, nearly two times the initial price.

Five liters of the same product once sold for 4,000 FCFA now goes for as much as 8,500 FCFA.

The Ministers in today’s exchange with the press will all be expected to take turns to reveal the different measures at their respective levels.

This comes just two weeks after the visit of French President, Emmanuel Macron to Yaounde.

Macron in his 24-hour visit had discussed a range of issues with President Paul Biya, including the war in Ukraine and its stance.

Both heads of states in a post-meeting press conference had also announced that they had discussed ways to jointly tackle issues plaguing both nations.
