Prof Njeuma, 41 others appointed notables, distinguished mothers of Buea

The Paramount Chief of Buea, Dr. Robert Esuka Mbella Endeley, has appointed the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the University of Buea, Prof. Dorothy Limunga Njeuma, and 41 other elites as notables and distinguished mothers of the First Class Chiefdom.

Chief Esuka Endeley communicated the appointments in a release published on Wednesday, September 13. Ten women are among the 42 prominent elites of Buea who have been appointed.

Among the appointees are Cameroon’s Minister of Secondary Education, Prof. Nalova Lyonga; the former Director of Cabinet at the Prime Minister’s office, Paul Njie Meoto; and the South West Regional Delegate of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, Ekombe 1 Mbua.

Other appointees are CRTV journalist Albert Njie Mbonde and the Mayor of Buea, David Mafani Namange, just to name a few.

“These individuals have been selected for their outstanding contributions to the community,” read the release signed by Chief Esuka Endeley.

“They are known for their wisdom, integrity, and commitment to serving others. I am confident that they will be valuable assets to the chiefdom,” it further said.

One of the 10 women appointed is Cameroon’s richest woman, Kate Kanyi Fotso, whose Telcar company is the largest cocoa exporter in the country.

Kate Fotso generously offered 20 million in March this year to support cultural projects in Bakweriland, and last year she pledged to offer the University of Buea over 50 million every year to reward excellence and sponsor less privileged students.

The appointments have come just over a year since Dr. Robert Esuka Endeley’s coronation as Paramount Ruler of Buea.

The 47-year-old is working with the Paramount Chief of Limbe, other traditional rulers, and elites of Mokpe to revive the Mbando Festival, a rich cultural celebration of the Bakweris who had died. He is also planning to erect a cultural centre and a museum in Buea to promote Bakweri culture.
