Promoting disability inclusion: Councils compete to win best practice prize

A project to encourage disability and inclusive development policies in some ten (10) councils in the North West region has been launched by the Cameroon Baptist Convention, CBC, Health Services.

The initiative guided by the Socio-Economic Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Program, SEEPD, is intended to boost inclusive policies at all levels.

The project to run for 12 months involves 10 councils in the North West region.

The 10 out of the 34 councils in the Northwest were selected based on the Memorandum of Understanding previously signed with the CBC Health Services.

The Director of Health services Dr. Tih Pius Muffih mentions that the excellence award is keen on areas like health and education.

“Buildings constructed in the community do not take into consideration the movement of persons with disabilities”, he said.

The mayor of Bafut, Lawrence Ngwakongoh discloses that they will henceforth work to make their structures all-inclusive.

“We need to make sure that access into buildings is all-inclusive”, he said.

Officials of the CBC Health Services have also announced plans to work with the national school of Local Administration, NASLA to design an inclusive curriculum and organize inclusive entrance examinations into the structure.
