Rema's Calm Down drops on Billboard Hot 100
Rema’s song “Calm Down” has fallen off the Billboard Hot 100 after a record-breaking 57 weeks.
“Calm Down” made its debut on the Billboard Hot 100 in September of last year, approximately seven months after its release.
The music monitoring platform Chart Data said on X, formerly Twitter that “It made history, becoming the longest-charting and most successful African song of all time.”
Music enthusiasts worldwide have been gripped by the captivating song since its release, as described by music analysts at Billboard magazine as “a melancholy slow jam with a subtle hypnotic draw.”
Fellow Nigerian Afrobeats star Wizkid’s song Essence held the 35-week record, but the song (Calm Down) smashed it.
American pop star Selena Gomez contributed to the massive global popularity of “Calm Down” with her small but impactful feature on the song.
“This man has changed my life forever. Rema, thank you for choosing me to be apart of one of the biggest songs in the world. Love you forever,” Selena wrote on her social media platforms.
Selena Gomez has returned to Spotify’s Billions Club owing to her feature on Rema’s huge hit “Calm Down.” She said her collaboration with Rema was not just a blessing, “you changed my life forever,” she added.
The song reached position three on the Billboard Hot 100, the most prestigious music ranking in the US, making it the highest-charting song with an Afrobeats musician as the lead artist.
Following the news of the song’s exit from the Billboard Hot 100 chart, fans of both Rema and Selena have been celebrating its historic achievement.
It has broken more than a dozen records. Last month, it achieved the title of the most streamed Afrobeats song on Spotify and became the first African artist-led song to reach one billion streams on the music platform.

Also, the first song to spend one year on the Billboard Afrobeats chart is Calm Down, and a Nigerian artist’s most watched music video is its YouTube video, which has 673 million views.
23-year-old Rema has achieved prominent status among Afrobeats artists like Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Davido, thanks to the enduring international success of his song.
The song won the inaugural Best Afrobeats song at the MTV VMA Awards last month, edging out other popular Afrobeats artists.
