Richard Bona to dump Cameroonian nationality? Series of questions were raised after the award-winning artist’s recent outings on social media.
Cameroon music icon, 53-year-old artist, Richard Bona has taken many by surprise after supposedly switching nationality.
The Cameroon-born Grammy winner who is known to be very critical of the Biya regime has reportedly picked up a different nationality.
Bona, who has often taken to social media to vent his frustration with the regime in power, on the 4th of January shared a photo of himself with an American passport.
He later put up a post indicating that his grammy award is now recognized for Ghana and not Cameroon.
Following diverse reactions from his fans, the prolific guitarist went on to post a letter supposedly handed to the Ghanaian president on August 1st, 2019.
He would later share images citing that he was already in the country’s capital, Accra.
While Bona is yet to make any formal proclamation on his supposed change of nationality, his recent action comes on the heels of Biya’s 2018 election victory as well as subsequent elections that have seen the ruling party secure a majority of seats contested.
Should Bona officially confirm his rumored change of nationality, Cameroon would have lost one of the world’s greatest guitarists and will be left without a Grammy award winner. The Grammy is one of the most prestigious in the global entertainment sphere.
