River Nyong: Two dead, seven missing

Security and defense forces are searching for seven Cameroonians in River Nyong, Nyong and So’o Division in the Centre Region of Cameroon.

Reports say, fourteen people, among them, retired military men and their spouses on board a local canoe, left Nkolmete village to Nject when the canoe capsized around Nkonvondo locality.

Jean Rene Songo, Senior Divisional Officer of Nyong and So’o Division, speaking to Cameroon’s state radio, says two bodies have been retrieved, five people rescued but seven are still missing.

The administrative official remarks that defense and security officers are searching for the seven missing persons.

The situation has caused panic in the locality with some attributing the incident to witchcraft given that the water level is low in the dry season in the month of December.
