Road users stranded as heavy rains destroy Santa-Bamenda road stretch

Heavy rains in the Northwest Region last night washed off parts of the Santa-Bamenda road stretch of the Bamenda-Babadjou road, causing heavy traffic around the area this morning.

Vehicles that were arriving Bamenda from other parts of the country like Buea, Yaounde and Douala — spent several hours around Mile 13, Santa, where the road was badly damaged by runoffs, a passenger told MMI.

“The rainy season is back in Cameroon with it plenty of wahala. All vehicles that left South West, Douala, Yaounde Bafoussam and many other places entering into Bamenda have been stock at Santa Miile13, below GBHS Santa,” said Kingsly Chi, a source.

He added that: “Travelers are all stranded with their luggage. Movement has been interrupted across all levels.”

Chi regretted that it has been over six years since the government launched the reconstruction of the Bamenda-Babadjou stretch of road.

“This road has been a nightmare to all those who travelled across this area on daily basis. At the moment, the company charged with the construction of the road is very active, trying to remedy the situation,” he said.

The Bamenda-Babadjou road is the main entry point into Bamenda. But for several years, this road has remained in a bad state, which is usually worsened in the rainy season.
