Scandal: Cameroonian lady poisoned in Kuwait survives, returns home

Kere Amara Ezioge arrived Douala Wednesday August 6, 2019 from Kuwait in a visibly improved health condition after going through her own share of modern day slavery.

The 27-year-old Cameroonian girl from Mbande village in Ako Subdivision of the North West of Cameroon says surviving to see the light of day today is by God’s grace.

She had spent two days in hospital where medics tried to rescue her after she had been poisoned. She immediately left hospital to the airport for the flight back home.
Amara Ezioge recounts that her employers in Kuwait (a couple) paid a medical doctor to inject a poisonous substance into her body on Monday August 5, 2019.
“I was not feeling well and my master and his wife suggested we go to the hospital. I accepted. While in the hospital, I overheard the couple speaking to the medical doctor in a low tune. I couldn’t get what they were saying given that I don’t understand their language so well. Then the doctor came and injected me three times. Few minutes after, I developed acute stomach complication. As I cried, the couple now told me it was a poison the doctor injected me on their instructions,” Amara explained to Mimi Mefo Info in tears.

Confused on what to do at that point, the girl rushed to the police station in Kuwait. To her, the police neglected the issue after discussing with her employers.
It took the prompt intervention of Cameroonians living in Kuwait who took her to a hospital for treatment. To the girl, the medical doctors confirmed that it was a slow medical poison that was injected on her to gradually damage her system till she dies.

The Genesis

Kere Amara Eziego arrived Kuwait in 2017 for a two-year contract as a domestic servant. She lived and worked with her employers happily but at the end of the contract, they wanted her to renew the contract and continue work in their house. An offer she turned down preferring to return to Cameroon.
To her “…it came to a point where they were not paying my salary. I worked for two years but they only paid me for one year four months. This means they owe me salary of eight months amounting to one million three hundred thousand francs cfa”.

This, plus the anxiety to see her kids back in Cameroon, urged her to demand to return despite pressure and intimidation from her employers. Throughout her stay in Kuwait, she explains that the couple secretly extended her visa without her consent.
Back in Cameroon, the mother of three says Africans in Kuwait are treated with disdain generally though with a few exceptions.
